Pre-Ballet with Tap (Ages 3½ - 5): This class is designed to instill a sense of rhythm and love of dance. Classes will consist of creative play songs, pre-ballet exercises, tap technique, dances, and creative movements using props.
CREATIVE Ballet w/Tap: (Ages 3½ -7): This class is a transition class to bridge the path from pre-ballet w/tap to classical ballet and tap. It is slightly more structured than pre-ballet. We may do a short barre where we sing the exercises, stretch and do many things across the floor. Students love to create their own dances, dance to movement inspired play songs and use props. Tap follows the same structure. We do a short barre and LOTS of across the floor steps, dancing with partners, working on rhythums and having fun.
Ballet/Tap/Jazz Combination Class (Ages 7½ -10): This 1.5 hour class is designed to introduce the students to all three dance disciplines in ONE class. This class will be very enjoyable for students this age. The many different types of music, styles of dance, exercises and tempos will keep them engaged while learning and dancing out the door each week. Please click the link for a more detailed description. Students love working with modern dance inspired creative movement exercises along with using props and patterns to dance freely while still learning valuable technique.
Ballet, Once a Week Classes are based upon the Cecchetti method of classical ballet. This syllabus includes technique at the barre and center floor, movements across the floor and terminology. Ballet is a beautiful way for students to develop poise, grace, confidence, balance and strength.
Preparation for Pointe (Ballet, Twice a Week): The essential techniques introduced above are further developed. Classes are taken twice weekly to strengthen the dancer in preparation for work in pointe shoes. Ages 9+
Preparation for Pointe and Beginning Pointe the Accelerated Program: This program has proven successful for many of our current pointe dancers. In fact, some of our best dancers took advantage of this class. This is a one hour technique class that students can use as a THIRD ballet class each week to help them get strong enough and technically prepared for pointe at an accelerated pace and for beginning pointe dancers. Please click the link for a more detailed description.
Pointe: Students are placed in classes offering ballet instruction in both soft slippers and pointe shoes pending the director's approval. Pointe students attend class three times a week to ensure the additional foot and body strength that dancing in pointe shoes requires. Ages 12+
Tap: Tap classes develop a keen sense of rhythm and coordination. Tap is fun, but also a challenge to the quickness of the mind and body. Most tap classes are offered in conjunction with ballet or jazz classes.
Jazz: Students will learn isolations, stretching exercises, turns, leaps, and jazz routines. Traditional, lyrical and street jazz styles will be studied. The Director strongly recommends jazz students also study ballet. Ages 9+
Choreography (Ages 10+) - New Class in 2018!!!: This is your chance to learn how to choreograph your own dances; in a group, duet or solo. We will be exploring different techniques used to choreograph and break into different groups to use what we have learned.
Students in this class will be able to perform extra dances that they choreograph with Miss Lisa's guidance in the Spring Performance!
This class empowers dancers and challenges them to discover dance as a means of personal self-expression & communication. It helps build their confidence as they collaborate with their peers and instructor. Recognize and develop your individual creative voice!
We will learn how to:
  • incorporate the elements of body (shape), energy, space, and time in the creation of dance compositions.
  • purposefully use improvisation along with dance technique as a means of movement invention.
  • demonstrate intention and theme in dance compositions.
  • compose and perform dances in group, duet, and solo forms.
  • collaborate with peers and instructor during physical, verbal, and written activities.
  • observe, discuss, and write your choreography in a notebook using dance vocabulary.
  • provide constructive verbal feedback to other class members.
Intro to Acro-Dance w/Yoga Stretch (Ages 8 - 11) - New Class in 2018!!!: Acro dance lessons will help your young dancer strengthen their muscles, often without them even realizing it. We will be working toward very basic exercises in this class, handstand, backbend, forward & backward roll, splits etc. These are all great for increasing the flexibility, balance and strength needed as they progress through dance. The more flexible your child is, the better range of motion they’ll have with their muscles. Once they can control them, the easier it is for them to find their balance point while dancing. To help them gain flexibility and strength we will also be doing yoga stretches in class each week. Help your little one keep their muscles and joints healthy from a young age! Mastering these moves is fun and will definitely give students a confidence boost!
